The public safety field is faced with immense challenge and responsibility, but no matter the sector, agency, or level, the mission remains the same: to do the greatest good for the greatest number of people, and while in doing so, to make sure that everyone returns home safely. As a veteran member of the fire service myself, safety is always our top priority; safety for yourself, the people we are working alongside, and the public we are serving.

The people, equipment, and training emergency response agencies rely on are all critical components to a successful mission. By nature, any emergency presents with a unique set of dangers and the environment and conditions responders face are constantly changing; thus, so must the nature of the response. Just as the nature of the response environment evolves, it is important that the tools, technology, and training evolves with it.

Through the growth and expansion of Uncrewed Aircraft Systems (UAS) and autonomous technology, UAS have become a leading resource across many applications, industries, and sectors. Now UAS have made their way into the public safety and emergency response arena. More and more organizations are relying on UAS for safety, efficiency, and hazard mitigation. Although not without its challenges, in dangerous, hazardous, and inaccessible situations, UAS present a tool that can provide efficiency, rapid response, and increased overall safety of the responding agency and personnel.
